Community Service Projects
Arts and Culture
Leslee Burch will be our chairman for 2025/2026 year. We are looking forward for new ideas for fun activities and projects coming up soon.
Here is an example of the turtle collage class she hosted last club year:
Leslee also hosted the Beaches Fine Arts Series on November 9th. Cultural Crossroads: Dvořák in America. This was an amazing concert that explored how American Indian music and moving African American spirituals influenced Dvořák over a century ago.
JBWC hosted the reception and provided amazing food.
The Arts and Culture CSP held a card making workshop on Wednesday, December 3rd at the
Neptune Beach Sr Ctr at Jarboe Park.
Twelve club members attended and made 89 cards exceeding our goal of 80 cards!
The group worked from 9:00-12:00 for a total 36 volunteer hours. The cards will be donated to the Beaches meals on wheels organization Community Kitchen.
Civic Engagement and Outreach
The Civic Engagement and Outreach ladies were hard at work helping Knights of Columbus (our new meeting place) soften their look. We provided and planted azaleas to liven up their landscaping.
Education and Libraries
Here’s a few of the wonderful ladies of Education and Libraries at Anchor Academy getting ready to serve all the teachers and support staff in honor of teachers appreciation month. The past year they gave a lot of attention the Anchor Academy by providing proceeds from our 50/50 raffle and donating money towards much needed computer upgrades.
Environmental
Sue Kreichelt will oversee Environment this year. She wants to concentrate on recycling. One event to watch out for is planned with New Age Hippy and Bank of America in honor of National Recycle Day. On Friday, November 14 we will host a the shredder for this event. More details to follow.
Check out the pollinator garden at Castaway Island Preserve. It really is beautiful. We helped buy the flowers and some of our ladies helped plant the garden. There is a new Master Gardener keeping a close eye on the garden this year.
Springing the Blooms, Sue and Katie passing out pencils that turn to basil.
JWBC visited the EPIC Outreach Farm (RSVP) on December 9th for an Education Farm Tour. The members came along with apples and carrots for the animals. They fed, pet, and learned about each animal and their origins.
Health and Wellness
These pictures were from Sizzling Summer Vibes 2025 at the Gulliford Center in Mayport. This was a second annual event hosted with New Age Hippy. This is a free event for the community, We had lots of give aways and as always we had FUN!
Signature Program: Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention
Mary Orser organized a trip to Retreaded. We learned so much about how Human Trafficking is effecting Jacksonville and what Retreaded is doing to help the women in their program. The first picture is a group of JBWC members donating 116 lbs of T-shirts for Retreaded to turn into amazing things to sell at their retail store. Next is a survivor telling us the story of the mural and how they designed and created it. It tells the story of their journey. Lovely Mary on the left was our leader of the day. Thanks Mary for a great day!.
